Presented at the 2025 Person Centered Housing Options (PCHO) Annual Conference: e-Racing the Shades, Confronting Housing Inequities, Race, Rent, and Power examines how these three forces intertwine to shape nearly every housing outcome in America.
Tracing a line from redlining and exclusionary zoning to today’s rent burden and homelessness, the presentation reveals how inequity isn’t accidental, it’s designed. Through history, policy, and data visualization, Gaither demonstrates how inequities leave measurable evidence and how visualization turns that evidence into actionable insight.
The session concludes with a live walkthrough of the Racial Equity Dashboard, a tool that makes disparities visible in real time and helps communities turn awareness into accountability. Once inequity is seen clearly, it can’t be unseen, and that’s where change begins.
